At a glance
Compare the exact wine and vintage, bottle size, purchase conditions and delivered total. Vinabox does not sell wine; the UK merchant links here are ordinary links and earn Vinabox no commission.
Where to start
Wine is sold through independent wine merchants, larger wine specialists, supermarkets, producer shops and membership-based merchants. Licensing and retail conditions differ between the four nations, so do not treat one shop’s terms as a nationwide rule.
| Channel | Example | Check before ordering |
|---|---|---|
| Wine specialist | Majestic | Distinguish the single-bottle price from a conditional Mix Six offer. Check the current delivery terms and postcode. |
| Member-owned merchant | The Wine Society | Membership and the exact offer terms; membership is not a recurring wine order. |
| Fine-wine merchant | Berry Bros. & Rudd | Whether the quotation is duty paid or in bond, bottle or case, and the withdrawal and delivery costs. |
| Local estate | WineGB producer directory | Use the directory to find an estate, then confirm the wine, shop opening and delivery directly. |
| Independent or supermarket | Your local licensed retailer | Vintage substitutions, bottle size, availability and the full terms of any advertised price. |
A verified membership price
The Wine Society’s official FAQ lists a one-off membership cost of £40, checked on 20 October 2026. This is a membership charge, not a wine-bottle price. No welcome credit or promotional benefit is promised here. See the current official membership information before deciding.
Single bottle, mixed case or in bond?
A conditional case price can look lower than a single-bottle price because the required purchase is different. Compare like with like and do not let a lower headline price push you towards buying more than you want. Check whether an advertised bottle contains 75cl, 37.5cl or another size.
An in-bond offer is a separate proposition. Berry Bros. & Rudd states that its In Bond prices exclude UK duty and VAT, which must be paid before UK delivery. Storage and delivery costs may also matter. For a bottle to open soon, ask for the duty-paid delivered total rather than comparing the in-bond figure directly with a shop shelf.
For en primeur or another future-delivery offer, read what you are buying, when delivery is expected and the merchant’s cancellation and financial terms. A wine guide is not a guarantee of delivery or an investment recommendation.
Age and delivery
You must be 18 or over to buy alcohol. Retailers may ask for proof of age at order or delivery and may have rules about who can receive the parcel. Check the merchant’s terms rather than assuming a parcel can be left unattended.
Before payment, confirm service to your postcode, including any island, remote-area or Northern Ireland conditions. Ordinary links from Vinabox do not establish that a shop currently delivers every product to every UK address. For an overseas order, check who handles taxes, import formalities and returns.
Minimum unit pricing is not uniform across the UK
Scotland has a minimum unit price of 65p, effective from 30 September 2024. Wales increased its minimum unit price to 65p on 1 October 2026. The rules concern alcohol sales; they are not a price list for every bottle and do not apply to a wine accessory merely because it is discussed here.
A unit is based on volume and strength. Do not use one nation’s promotion as evidence that the same offer is available or lawful at another delivery location. The sources below explain the Scottish and Welsh rules; check current merchant terms for the actual transaction.
Buying Bordeaux, Burgundy and English wine
Record the producer, appellation or origin, grape or blend, vintage and exact size. A merchant’s regional description is a starting point, not proof that a bottle suits your meal or will improve with age. With English and Welsh wines, seek information on where the grapes were grown and the production method for sparkling wine.
Use our regional guide and grape directory to phrase the style you want.
